At the cutting room table: designing Valletta

Sheridan has always had a strong connection with contemporary art, beginning with our Founder Claudio Alcorso and his passion for the arts nearly 50 years ago.

The inspiration behind the design.

This season we wanted to create a bold statement art bed for our customers and in line with our seasonal direction.

The direction we set is important to create the mood of the season. The Valletta bed design forms a key art bed from our Meridian story. This story speaks to the clean and vibrant light when the sun is sitting high in the middle of a summer day.

Our in-house artist created the Valletta design by painting broad, bold brushstrokes in sweeping movements across a canvas.

Design process.

Our in-house artist created the Valletta design by painting broad, bold brushstrokes in sweeping movements across a canvas.

Each brushstroke illustrating unique detail in mixing colours, tones and texture whilst also capturing the energy of the artists’ movement. This mark-making was then transferred into a digital format to create the layout for the bed.

Each brushstroke being placed specifically to create a panel design, a layout that is engineered to the shape of the bed.
After the design is sent to be print house, our Head Designer approves strike off designs, or smaller preliminary printed sections of the design. This is to check the colour and detail of the design is being captured correctly.

A prototype is then received and once it is approved the bed moves into sampling and then bulk production, ready for the stores.

Colour.

The bold midnight navy and clean blues of the brushstrokes, combined with white negative space, captures the sharp light and energetic mood of landscapes of Western Australia we were inspired by.
