At the cutting room table: designing the Baby Collection
We journeyed to Western Australia to gather inspiration for the Spring / Summer Baby Collection. The journey made us reminiscent of childhood holidays, storytelling and road trips.
One of my favourite places was Busselton Jetty, where we explored the beautiful vivid colours with levels of blues and turquoise. Here, our textile artists painted their surroundings using delicate watercolours. This visit became the main inspiration for the prints that are used on our muslin collection and our baby clothing.
We were constantly in awe of the beauty of Western Australia.
We began to think about how a child might see summer and holidaying through their eyes; what they might see looking out the car window up to the sky. This curiosity and imagination sparked the print inspiration behind our jersey collection, featuring whimsical hot air balloons, a starry night and the playful Australian native sugar glider which features throughout our designs.
When we returned to the Sheridan Sydney Design Studio from a week in WA, we collated the information we gathered to commence designing and planning the collection on mood boards.
We started the process of selecting qualities of fabric, ensuring sure they are crafted from beautifully soft, natural fibres which are essential for a baby’s skin. We considered colour, keeping to a classic yet contemporary palette of levels of pinks, blues and greys.
As always, we crafted the Baby Collection with safety at the fore. We are proud to be the first official bed linen partner of SIDS and Kids, ensuring we create the safest, most comfortable night’s sleep for our most precious little customers.
Our Kids and Baby Collection is now also available in our 35 David Jones Kids and Baby concepts Australia wide.
