Mother’s Day is a truly special time, especially for a new mum. Michelle Lau, from A Minute Away From Snowing, shares the lessons she’s learned in her first year of motherhood and her favourite little luxuries since becoming a mother.
Even though every day is Mother’s Day, there’s something worthy and special about dedicating a day to celebrate the unconditional love that guides our most important role, together with so many other strong, selfless and inspiring mothers around us.
As the sun sets on my baby’s first year, I can’t help but marvel at all the things I’ve learnt about him – and myself. As mamas to-be, we try and prepare for our new role as best we can by focusing on all the things we’ll teach our children (and all the challenges that go with them), without stopping to think for a moment how much they can teach us once they’re earth-side. In the 12 months he’s graced us with his beautiful presence, Finn has taught me so many lessons about the world and myself. How to be patient, let go, be less of a perfectionist, be more confident, and – most importantly – how to be kind to myself.

Since becoming a mother, it’s the simple luxuries that leave me feeling the most spoilt without even needing to leave home. Fresh flowers, time with my family, a beautifully made bed to curl up in with a book. Or starting and finishing the day in total comfort, wrapped up in my personally monogrammed Grayce Robe.
At the end of a long day I love coming home to my Abbotson Linen bed, a personal favourite, together with the soft and cosy Haden knitted pillows. A beautiful bed will always evoke a sense of calm. I also love the Bligh Cushion which leaves me feeling completely indulged with its soft and luxurious texture.
It must be said that no Mother’s Day is complete without a sleep-in with our littlest love right beside us. Dare I say, that is the greatest gift of all.
Happy Mother’s Day.
