We take a moment with Clare Patience, Lifestyle Editor at Marie Claire magazine, to find out what our uniquely Australian Christmas means to her and the luxurious gifts she'll be giving friends and loved ones this year.
There’s absolutely nothing like Christmas in Australia. Come December, the jacarandas are out, the beach starts calling and the afternoons become long and languid. Add champagne and celebrations and suddenly Australia seems to be the only place to enjoy the holiday season.
This Christmas, I decided to go for all out luxury and treat my friends and family to something special. Avert your eyes, loved ones, for this is my secret Santa list:
For my husband.
My husband is a man who isn’t afraid of a little luxury. I’m going to indulge his inner James Bond this year with a monogrammed robe and slippers. I know he’ll love the Quick Dry Luxury Personalised Dad Robe – it’s the perfect gift for the kids to give him on Christmas morning.
For my Dad.
Dad is notoriously hard to buy for and I just refuse to do the socks and hanky thing! This year I’m getting him the Reilly Quilt Cover Set in Atlantic blue. It’s an absolutely beautiful colour that I know he’ll love, and I really like the idea of him sitting in bed reading the paper in pure luxury.
For my girlfriends.
My best friend is the quiet, indoors type and just bought herself a beautiful new apartment, so I’m getting her a scented candle in the Wild Botanic fragrance. It’s a classic, fresh scent and will cast a lovely warm glow in the new place.
Our other bestie is quite the opposite, she loves the outdoors and is always heading to the beach with her family, so this year she’ll be getting The Basin Beach Towel. I love its tie dyed “Byron Bay” friendly design and the velour finish is pure decadence.
For my little ones.
We’re driving up to Crescent Head for the holiday season, and I can’t wait to see my two littlies running around on the sand and chasing the waves. When it’s (finally) time to get them out of the water, I’ll be keeping them dry with the Secret Harbour Kids Beach Towels. I know they’ll be a must-have for our beach outings this summer.
I’ve made no secret of my desire to be unwrapping fresh white Ultrasoft Cashmere Sheets in my present haul this year. I’m just hoping my husband gets the hint! Sleep has suddenly become more important than ever in my life, so adding some extra luxury to my limited enjoyment of it sounds wonderful.
My tips for luxury Christmas gift wrapping.
Wrapping paper is so last year! I’m going to be adding another useful layer and minimising paper waste by wrapping gifts in a practical “outer” gift. I’ll be wrapping my beach towels in the Eastern Beach Bag, bed linen or intimates in the lovely Abbotson Linen Pillowcases and small and beachy items like swimwear would look beautiful bundled up in a printed Eastport Sarong.
Our Australian Christmas.
Christmas Day for our family means heading to Brisbane, where we’ll be relaxing in the sunshine on the large deck at my in-laws house. Hopefully we’ll be sipping champagne as the kids frolic in the pool. Prawns will be mandatory, of course!
Merry Christmas all!
