At Home With Talisa Sutton and Rohan Peterson

Welcome to our new series At Home With — where we’ll be bringing you into the homes of Australia’s coolest personalities. We’re talking house tours, serious décor inspiration, chatting all things rest rituals, and more. We’ll be bringing you along for the ride each time — so watch this space.
A family home that ticks all the boxes. Warm, welcoming, relaxed — and impeccably styled. For multihyphenate creative Talisa Sutton and husband Rohan Peterson, this isn’t just a pipedream. It’s their home.
Style is second nature to Talisa and Rohan. Each a creative in their own right, the couple co-founded Badlands Studio, a multidisciplinary creative practice. Talisa is also an influencer, fashion personality and former Brand Art Director for RUSSH magazine. Paints the picture of a seriously chic couple, right?
This natural proclivity for chicness is everywhere in Talisa and Rohan’s home, which they share with their two young daughters and one very cute dog, Otis. Tucked away in a leafy suburb of Sydney, Talisa and Rohan love a neutral colour palette, with pops of texture bringing dimension and comfort. Not strictly minimalist, far from maximalist. It’s a home where every item has been considered.

In no room is this more evident than the living room. Anchored by a velvet sofa and light-catching chrome coffee table, it’s a space for connection and calm. “We wanted to cultivate that moment of rest and relaxation”, Talisa tells us. The room is sans-television, opting instead for a record player and an impressive array of books and magazines.
Collected items from years of working, travelling and their relationship, Talisa shares that “all of those pieces layer together to speak to who we are as creatives”.
The feeling of calm is throughout Talisa and Rohan’s home — and in the way the pair interacts with each other. Talisa’s relaxed demanour meets Rohan’s playful energy with an ease that translates into their space.
As you look around the room, it’s easy to get a sense of who Talisa and Rohan are. Art, objects, books and freshly cut flowers decorate each surface. Collected items from years of working, travelling and their relationship, Talisa shares that “all of those pieces layer together to speak to who we are as creatives”.

Our next stop on the tour is the main bedroom — a room that Talisa says is her favourite in the house. The walls are limewashed in a subtle neutral shade, a new DIY addition that Talisa and Rohan are very pleased (and just a little bit relieved) came together as they envisioned. Touches of chrome on the bedside tables bring that modern flare that Talisa and Rohan are so great at capturing. There’s no doubt that this room belongs to a couple who lives and breathes style.

The bed is a focal point of the room. Styled with Abbotson Linen in flax, it brings a laidback luxe feel to the room. “As designers, we always want to make sure we get the foundation right”, says Rohan. “I think everything pairs back so beautifully and once you get that base right, it really allows your colours and your patterns, your textures, all those accents to really pop.”

Decorative pieces tie in the darker accents in the room — like the chest of drawers that proudly displays Talisa’s fragrance collection (seriously, goals). And speaking of goals, it’s no surprise that the wardrobe is a showstopper. Anyone familiar with Talisa’s social media presence will know that her chic, timeless style extends beyond her home and into her wardrobe.
“We're in a really busy season of life, so rest can be quite fleeting, but I think it's just so important when you can to take those moments to yourself.”
True to their creative roots, Talisa and Rohan’s home reflects their family, their relationship and their personal style. It’s a space that invites rest and connection. “Rest to me is a moment to sort of unwind and regroup after a big day”, says Talisa. “We're in a really busy season of life, so rest can be quite fleeting, but I think it's just so important when you can to take those moments to yourself.”

As we move into the bathroom, we’re greeted by natural light coming in through the skylight. What would otherwise be a compact space feels light and airy with the sunlight bouncing off the white walls.
A space where the family transitions from day to night, Rohan explains that the bathroom serves as “one of the most important rooms of the house”. It's where the evening wind down happens for their two young girls — a daily ritual that sets the scene for rest.
Timber accents ground the space, which Rohan tells us served as the inspiration for their styling. “We wanted to go with things that would complement the existing wood patterns that are here”, he notes as he indicates to their sleek wooden vanity and cabinetry.

Along with their signature objects like ceramic vessels and stem vases, Talisa and Rohan have used towels to their advantage in styling a smaller room. Folded and draped at the edge of their noteworthy sunken bathtub, layers of chestnut brown, charcoal and limestone stipes bring a softness to the space. Rohan notes that “it was important for us to keep things layered and just have everything complementary to bring warmth to what is quite a stark space”.

Down the hall, Talisa brings us to the bedroom of their eldest daughter, Lua. The walls are finished in the same limewash as the main bedroom, only this time in a playful peachy tone. The vibe in here is distinctly youthful, yet Talisa and Rohan’s styling comes through just as clearly as the rest of the home.
“As Lua has grown up, I feel like my style has evolved. But also, it's been such a joy discovering her sense of style and what she loves”.
Since becoming a parent, Talisa’s interior style has grown alongside her family. “When Lua was a baby, I definitely feel like I had that sensibility of I loved things to be really minimal”, Talisa says “as Lua has grown up, I feel like my style has evolved. But also, it's been such a joy discovering her sense of style and what she loves”.

Lua’s love of playful prints and bright colours shines in this space. It’s a fun collaboration between parent and child — mixing curated furniture, like a vintage-inspired chair or a scalloped bookshelf, with accessories in whimsical prints and colours.
