Our Must-Try Trends This Autumn
After a seriously hot Australian summer, crisper days are on their way. Autumn is approaching, and with it comes a new wave of interior design trends. Inspired by the likes of New York Fashion Week, TikTok lifestyle trends, and what’s been popping up all over our Pinterest boards — we’ve compiled a shortlist of home trends for autumn 2026. Whether you’re looking to dip your toes in or dive in head-first, we hope this list brings you some extra inspiration for the season.
Here are four trends on our radar this autumn.
Rich, Spiced Colours
As the months get cooler, we’re finding ourselves turning to deeper colours for the home. Cited by colour experts among the likes of Pantone and Dulux, autumn 2026 is the season of bold, deep colour. A little bit dramatic and a whole lot comforting, this colour palette works throughout the home — either in accents or in more statement colour drenching, whichever takes your fancy.
Think: a lounge accented with cushions in shades of chocolate and dark cherry, bath towels and robes in spiced shades like clove. Even a sprinkling of colour for the kitchen, to tie each room together. For a touch of lightness, contrast these bold shades with soothing blues and neutrals.
Cosymaxxing
Self-care and taking care of your wellbeing aren’t trends — they’re essentials, in fact — but the past year has seen a renewed desire for all things comfort, relaxation and wellbeing. Enter: the cosymaxxing trend.
Originating on TikTok, the definition of cosymaxxing is in the (chronically online) name — achieving maximum levels of cosiness. We’re talking pre-bedtime rest rituals for deeper sleep, channelling our focus to analog activities like journalling, reading or meditation, investing in cloudlike bedding, and layers of comfort in living spaces.
When it comes to cosy, it’s all about the feels. Textures are exaggerated and layered; think faux fur and brushed cotton — and plenty of it. Wearables among the likes of quilted bathrobes and silk eye masks work their way into daily wind downs.
Joyful Maximalism
Maximalism stays on our radar this season, with a particularly joyful twist. According to WGSN’s trend report for 2026, TikTok searches for #WhimsicalDecor and #DopamineDecor are up 216% and 26% respectively compared to the previous year. Trends like colourblocking and statement stripes reign supreme, encouraging self-expression and play in our home styling.
More than a simple “more is more” outlook, joyful maximalism is about styling a space that makes us feel good. Seeing our personalities reflected in our surroundings brings a sense of belonging and comfort to our homes.
Think: layered mismatched bedding, pattern clashing, broad reaching colour palettes. Home décor that’s made to play, providing a creative outlet to mix and match different looks on the regular.
Nostalgic Kids Spaces
This year, children’s spaces are looking to the past — in some cases, we’re talking decades. According to Pinterest Predicts, what they’re dubbing the Throwback Kid trend is making waves in 2026. Pinterest searches for topics like “nostalgia toys” (+225% on the previous year) and “1970s childhood toys” (+125%) are gaining traction. Not just for the kidults among us, Throwback Kid is translating into the way we style children’s spaces in our homes.
Nostalgia-fuelled prints are key to this trend. Classic motifs like vintage rocket ships, shooting stars (not unlike the glow-in-the-dark ones we all stuck to our ceilings back in the day) and butterflies are all at home in this playful aesthetic. Not only are these touches whimsical enough to engage young ones, but they’re filled with warm and fuzzy nostalgic feels for parents to enjoy too.
