When investing in your home decor, it’s common to focus on shared spaces that will be seen by house guests — areas like living rooms, kitchens, and dining spaces. But when it comes to decorating for your own enjoyment, there’s something to be said about investing in your bedroom. Your bedroom sets the tone for your day — it’s where you rest and recharge each night, and where you wake up to greet the day ahead. It’s important to create a space that feels relaxing, rejuvenating, and like an expression of your personality. After all, we feel most at home in spaces that reflect our likes and interests.

The inspiration for today is our Millennia collection. This year marks 25 years of Millennia — one of our most loved (and most luxe) collections. Crafted from 1200 thread count cotton sateen, Millennia exemplifies what it means to ‘treat yourself’. It's timeless, feels incredible, and makes for the perfect inspiration for today’s topic: how to style a luxurious bedroom. So, let’s get into it.

Invest In Your Sheets

We want your bedroom to feel as luxurious as it looks, which is why it’s important to choose quality bed linen. Look for natural fibres like cotton or linen, which feel soft and breathable against skin. By investing in quality pieces (and following the proper care instructions, of course), your bed will age like a fine wine for years to come.

If you’re after that five-star hotel feeling at home, you can’t go past our 1200 thread count Millennia and Palais collections. The higher thread count gives these sheets a beautiful weighty feel, paired with a sateen weave that’s smooth to the touch with a subtle lustre. Does it get more luxurious than that?

Plush Pillows (and Cushions)

When you think luxurious bed, you probably picture a pile of fluffy pillows so big you can jump right into it. And whilst we might not recommend that many pillows, we do recommend at least two standard sized pillows with a nice soft loft. Feather & down pillows are a good option for that lofty, fluffy look — or if you prefer a feather & down alternative, we have you covered there as well. Layer in a couple of European pillows for a classically luxe look, and finish with a decorative cushion.

Size Up Your Quilt

A simple styling trick to achieve a luxurious bedroom look is to size up your quilt or bed cover. If you have a queen mattress, opt for a king-sized quilt, and so on. This will allow your quilt to drape over the sides of the bed, giving you a plush, abundant look. This trick works for bed covers as well, which will drape beautifully onto the floor. By the way, if you haven’t yet been converted to a bed cover fan, hear us out. They’re a game-changer.

Find Your Light

Ambient lighting goes a long way to setting the look and feel of a space. If your bedroom already has a built-in dimmer switch, congratulations. If not, lamps are your best friend. Style a lamp or two in your bedroom and kit them out with smart bulbs, et voilá — you now have customisable mood lighting at your fingertips. Plus, it’s a renter-friendly and budget-friendly option.

Decorate With Rugs

A well-placed rug is another renter-friendly design tip that packs a serious sartorial punch. Can’t paint your walls or change your carpet? Introduce colour and texture with a rug. Choose your rug depending on how much space you’re working with — a large area rug underneath the bed can help to separate your sleeping space from the rest of the room, or if your bedroom is on the smaller side, try a runner-style rug next to or at the foot of the bed to add variety (and protect toes from cold floors in winter). As far as which style of rug to choose, there are no rules here. Whether your style is classic Persian or Kilim, or a more modern geometric or minimalist style, what’s important is that you choose something you’ll love living with.

Let Your Curtains Flow

for curtains, be extra generous with the width — some extra fabric will help achieve a plush look. Make sure they’re long enough to just hit the floor; longer curtains will help the ceilings feel even higher than they are.

Display Your Personality

Put your favourite items on display. If you’re concerned about clutter, try grouping smaller objects on decorative trays and switching out items periodically, rather than displaying everything at once. Whether it’s art on the walls, photos or trinkets on shelves, being surrounded by things you love will go a long way to styling a space you love.
