If you've been following along with our Meet the Maker series, you'll recognise today's designer in the spotlight. Last season, we chatted to Clare about her Juni print — and this season, our textile design manager is back on the blog to tell us all about the inspiration behind Brielle. A statement botanical print, Brielle showcases Clare's flair for vibrant colour and hand-drawn illustration.
If you're interested in a peek behind the curtain of our in-house design process, keep on reading.
What inspired the Brielle design?
"The design draws inspiration from the calming beauty of nature and the desire to bring the outdoors in. The aim was to create a space that feels fresh, peaceful, and connected to nature. I chose hand-drawn botanical illustrations to bring a soft, personal touch — each leaf and flower carefully drawn to reflect the detail and charm of a real garden. The colours are drawn from nature, too: soft greens, earthy tones, and bright floral shades that add warmth and energy, like sunlight filtering through trees."
Which mediums did you use the create Brielle? What helps you decide which medium is best for a certain print?
"For this design, I started by hand-drawing each element to capture an organic, botanical feel. Working by hand allowed me to create more fluid, natural shapes that aligned with the aesthetic I was aiming for. Once the illustrations were complete, I scanned them and brought everything into Photoshop, where I added colour and arranged the final layout digitally.
When deciding which medium to use for a project, I consider the overall mood and style I want to convey. In this case, the tactile quality of hand-drawn illustrations combined with the flexibility of digital editing gave me the best of both worlds."
Can you describe the mood of Brielle in three words?
"Refined, vibrant and playful."
What do you love most about this design?
"What I love about this design is how it brings a sense of calm and natural beauty into a space, like stepping into a peaceful garden. The hand-drawn botanicals and fresh, nature-inspired colours create a warm, uplifting atmosphere that feels both personal and timeless."
How would you style Brielle in your home?
"This is such a versatile bed, but for me personally I would style Brielle back with our beautiful Abbotson Linen sheets in the colour raisin. For accessories, it would have to be the Sano Cushion in dark denim and Abbotson Linen cushion in raisin."
If you'd like to bring a piece of Brielle home — you're in luck. This one-of-a-kind design is available in a quilt cover, pillowcase pair and coordinating European pillowcase.
