For this year's final instalment of Meet the Maker, we’re chatting with Flavia, the artist behind this season’s Longview print. Flavia is one of our senior textile designers and has been with the Sheridan design team for twelve years. So, who better to invite us into the world of all things Sheridan design?

What inspired the Longview design?

“I wanted to create a visual story. To me, Longview feels like a peaceful moment looking over a calm harbour from a sun-washed terrace lined with palm trees. The composition features a sea view with gently bobbing boats and decorative balustrades. Paired with the overlayed tile patterns, I think it evokes a feeling of charm and nostalgia.”

What techniques did you use the create the original artwork? Is there anything that helps you decide which medium to use?

“I was inspired to use soft aqua blues and greys to capture the quiet, serene atmosphere of a coastal view. I felt watercolour would best capture the mood of the design, and the painterly style allowed me to work freely with brushstrokes and texture. Working with watercolour brings a certain movement and depth to the scene — it reminds me of the ever-changing surface of the sea, which feels very fitting for Longview.”

Describe Longview’s mood in three words?

“Relaxed, reminiscent, holiday.”

What do you love about this design?

“I love that it brings a sense of calm and escape into the home. It turns the bed into a place of retreat — a lot like the tranquil scenes that inspired it.”

How would you style Longview in your home?

“I would pair the quilt cover with our Palais Trellis flat sheet and pillowcases and finish off with the Valetta Cushion.”
