Styling Series: Towel Styling Secrets
Everybody loves a little bit of me-time. Whether you’ve mastered the perfect routine for an "everything shower", love a luxurious bath here and there, or just enjoy the daily ritual of a skincare routine — so much of our self-care happens in the bathroom. So, doesn’t it go without saying that the space where we pamper ourselves should look the part? The good news — especially for the renters out there — is that there's no shortage of simple tricks to elevate your bathroom decor.
In fact, sometimes it’s the small additions that can make all the difference. Enter: the humble bath towel. Your towels aren't just for drying off after the aforementioned pamper sesh — they're also a quick and effortless way to introduce a pop of personal style to your bathroom. If you're a fan of a seasonal update or just love experimenting with new looks, a good towel combination can change the look and feel (in this case, literally) of your bathroom.
To help us bring this vision to life, we asked interior stylist Fiona Gould for her top tips on putting together a Pinterest-board-worthy towel combination.
Towel tip #1
White bath towels are classic for a reason — nothing says luxe hotel getaway like a set of plush white towels. That being said, if you're looking to refresh your look, start by introducing some colour into the mix. Our Aven Stripe towels in white are a perfect place to start. Keeping with that classic white base, their namesake stripe adds a modern touch.
And for those of us who want to experiment a bit further, this design gives us a nice jumping off point to begin playing with different combinations.
Towel tip #2
If you've tuned into our Styling Series before, you'll know that we're big fans of layering pattern on pattern. If you're worried about it feeling too busy, don't worry — it's all about scale. Unlike the more uniform stripe of our Aven towels, the Living Textures Stripe collection features bands of colour in varying widths. This variation adds a nice pop of contrast, for a lovely complementary pairing.
Towel tip #3
For our maximalists out there, we challenge you to try combining two completely different patterns in your towel stack. Here, Fiona has paired our Living Textures Stripe in navy with the Enlow towel in orient blue. Their shared colour palette makes this a dream pairing, with each showcasing the deeper and lighter shades respectively.
How you combine the patterns is totally up to you — whether you dip your toes in with a hand towel, or dive right into a full set, have fun with trying different combinations.
Towel tip #4
Mixing in a plain dye towel or bath mat can help ground your look and give the eye a place to rest. Here, Fiona has styled our Alvar bath mat — choosing that same shade of orient blue to tie our look together throughout the room.
