There’s something about a European Summer that’s just not like any other type of holiday. Just ask any of your friends, family or co-workers that you’ve recently seen (most likely via Instagram), jetting off to Italy and the like.

Whether it’s the lush countryside, beautiful architecture, clear blue skies — or the fact it feels like it’s a million miles away from the stresses of everyday life — the experience is unparalleled.

We can’t fly you out to one of these destinations, unfortunately, but we can transport you somewhere magical — where your senses are in tune, your body relaxed, where your mind can recoup and daydream away.

It’s as simple as setting up an oasis within your home — all you need to do, is try out these eleven simple summer bedroom styling ideas. And don’t worry, you don’t have to do all eleven, we’re not going to add stress to what’s meant to be a sanctuary, your retreat for self-care.

#1: From the Bottom Up

Let’s start with the bottom of your room — the floor. You don’t need glistening marble or hand-painted tiles to make a space feel special (although if you own your place, or have a particularly lenient landlord, painting tiles would make for a fun DIY project).

A simpler step? Rugs. Look for a Persian-inspired rug for a curated, vintage feel. If you’re after more of a breezy Greek Islands sort of vibe, go for something lighter like jute or macrame.

With so many colours, textures and shapes, the power of a well-chosen rug cannot be underestimated.

#2: Let the Light In

What’s a summer getaway without sunshine? Open up the curtains and let natural light flood in. Or if your windows are sorely lacking, look to lamps and pendants with neutral coloured shades and soft bulbs.

#3: Go with Gauzy Furnishings

Perhaps it's not your windows that are sorely lacking, but the view — we’ve all been there with flatshares. For a way to let light in that doesn’t involve looking straight into your neighbours' kitchen, look to lightweight curtains in fabrics like voile, linen or cotton. To make it feel truly dreamy, choose a simple shade of white or beige.

#4: Layer Up Your Bed

One of the best things about being on holiday? Plush hotel beds. Recreate the five-star experience at home with luxe bed linens in finishes like sateen for that silky-soft, crisp finish.

For a bed that you can’t wait to fling yourself onto, pile on the pillows and don’t forget to fluff them up for maximum effect. European pillows are perfect for offering extra plushness in this area — we promise we aren’t just including them for their name.

#5: Play with Your Palette

For a showstopping colour statement, you can’t go past our Lyric design. Covered in larger-than-life blooms, this design is a little bit whimsical and a whole lot of beautiful.

Finished in a fresh, blue-toned French grey (see a theme forming here?) with pops of vivid coral that bring this design to life. Brilliant colours of summer that can be brought into your bedroom with quilt covers and coordinating pillowcases

#6: Flowers on Flowers

If you’ve ever been to the European countryside — or experienced an Australian summer — you’ll recognise all matter of gorgeous florals. You can now experience them all the time without having to pick a single one.

All it takes is the aforementioned Lyric. The quilt cover features purposefully altered florals; gorgeous hand-painted blooms from the Sheridan archives that have been blurred and transformed into a fantasy garden. A perfect meeting of classic and modern influences, Lyric is a styling dream. Want major impact? Pair florals atop florals.

#7: Have More Fun with Colour

The great thing about the warmer months? The abundance of colours — blue to green to yellow to pink to orange to everything in between. You can bring all these shades, layered on top of one another when styling your European-inspired bedroom. You can even bring it into your lounge or living room, to extend the theme throughout your home.

Go bold with coral pinks from our Abbotson Linen Collection and multicoloured blooms from accessories like the Sovereto Breakfast Cushion, or keep it light and neutral with offerings like the Tessino Breakfast Cushion.

#8: Show off Your Green Thumb

An easy idea for your summer inspired bedroom — bringing literal nature into it. What better way to let the outside world in than with a plant? Think fiddle leaf figs, pothos, snake plants, monsteras and ferns (hanging ones add a nice touch).

#9: Play Pretend With Plants

If your thumb is more mean than green, feel free to go fake — we won’t tell. You can get an artificial bird of paradise or palm, even artificial succulents. Dried flowers or fronds will work a treat here, too.

#10: Get Arty

Whether you’re allowed to hang pictures from walls or it’s more of a “not even blu-tack is allowed” so you’re reliant on casually arranging pieces to lean against a wall, add artwork with a European motif.

Look for options like vintage advertisements adorned with Aperol Spritz’, movie posters for classics like Roman Holiday (who wouldn’t feel inspired looking at Audrey Hepburn on a vespa?) or prints of classic works by the likes of Matisse, Monet and Van Gough.

Purchasing art can be an expensive endeavour, so getting thrifty with the frames is a perfect way to bring a unique flair that won’t break the bank.

#11: Set up a Home Spa

So, veering slightly out of styling your European summer bedroom and walking into the bathroom — but what’s a summer getaway without a luxury spa experience?

Our Ultimate Indulgence Towel Collection is crafted from combed Turkish cotton pile, for a beautifully luxurious hand feel that will be sure to leave you feeling zen. And in colours like twine, cactus and charcoal, the peaceful palette will create the restorative sanctuary of your dreams.
