How Our Recycling Program Works and Why We Need It

Did you know that the average household is estimated to have 15kg of old, worn linen at the end of its life? Picture the back of your linen cupboard – do you see any threadbare sheets? Maybe an old towel with a mystery stain (or a few)? The good news is that your old towels and bed linen aren’t doomed to spend forever taking up your precious cupboard space – or sitting in landfill. In fact, the rise in textile waste is why we created the Sheridan Recycling Program back in 2019.

Textile waste is a worldwide issue. By 2030, more than 140 million tonnes per annum of textiles will be sent to landfill; with Australia contributing almost one million tonnes of textile waste every year. We’re proud to be the first Australian homewares brand to offer a recycling program across the country – providing a solution for local communities to consciously dispose of their pre-loved bed linen and towels. With our new partners at BlockTexx ®, your old, worn bed linen and towels can be turned into valuable resources.

If you’re interested in how to participate in the Sheridan Recycling Program, or curious about what happens to your pre-loved items after they’re dropped off, we’ve broken it down into some frequently asked questions.

What Items Can I Recycle?

The Sheridan Recycling Program accepts pre-loved sheets, quilt covers, pillowcases and towels. You can recycle items from any brand – not just Sheridan. All we ask is that you wash your items before bringing them in store.

How Can I Participate?

Every Sheridan Boutique and Outlet store is equipped with a recycling collection point. Simply bring in your unwanted items and it’s as easy as one, two, three:

Step 1 | Return

Bring your washed, pre-loved quilt covers, sheets and towels – of any brand – to the in-store bins at your local Sheridan Boutique or Outlet store. You can find your nearest store here.

Step 2 | Recycle

The items will be collected by our partners at BlockTexx® and sent to their facility in Loganholme, Queensland, where they will be recycled and converted back into their individual raw materials.

Step 3 | Renew

These raw materials can be repurposed into new products.

As a thank you for choosing to recycle, you’ll receive a 5% discount on any purchase over $100 made on that same day.

What Happens to My Items?

Once your items are dropped off in-store, they’ll be collected by our new partners at BlockTexx® and sent to their facility in Loganholme, Queensland. This is where the recycling process takes place, right here in Australia.

BlockTexx®’s proprietary S.O.F.T.™ (Separation of Fibre Technology) process is a real solution for hard to recycle textile and clothing blends at their end of life. This pioneering technology ensures that textiles are not just recycled but converted into high-grade raw materials for use in many industries, including textiles and agriculture.

We recognise the importance of having responsible end-of-life solutions for our products. The Sheridan Recycling Program allows us to not only divert your pre-loved items from landfill, but to give them a second life as well. So, next time you’re spring cleaning your linen cupboard, step away from the rubbish bin and bring those worn-out sheets to your closest Sheridan store.
