How to Transform Your Space with Bed Covers
Ever find yourself kicking your quilt off in summer? Or wrapping yourself up like a burrito to preserve warmth during winter? Well, you might be surprised to find that these seemingly opposite issues can be helped with the same solution – a bed cover. Not quite a quilt, not quite a blanket, bed covers are one of our favourite pieces for layering a bed. Their quilted design provides an extra layer of warmth over your bed during the colder months, while their comfortably lightweight feel makes for an ideal quilt alternative during summer.
Not only is the humble bed cover great for keeping you comfortable year-round, but they can totally change up the look and feel of your bedroom. In fact, we asked Interior Stylist, Fiona Gould to show us how to style a bed cover – and she gave us not one, but three unique looks to try out. That brings us to today’s Styling Series masterclass: how to style one bed three ways, using bed covers. Let’s dive in.
Style #1: Folded & Tucked
First up, we have a simple fold and tuck. This (albeit unofficial) name says it all – fold your bed cover over itself until it becomes a nice, tidy rectangle, and style it tucked underneath the fold of your quilt cover.
By neatly folding your bed cover, you can incorporate all of that wonderful colour and texture, while still maintaining a sleek and refined look. This one is for all our minimalists out there who want to dip into a little pop of colour. A great, simple layer, our Henderson Bed Cover features contrast stitching and a linear design, for a modern-meets-playful look that we love for any bedroom. (It also comes in a white on white version, for all you monochrome fans out there).
Style #2: Open Cover
Our second look brings a looser approach to minimalist bedroom styling, with this gorgeous, draped look. Style this look by laying your open bed cover across the bed, letting it drape down the sides and gently onto the floor. We’re once again tucking the top of the bed cover underneath the quilt fold, so we can show off those layers.
Allowing your bed cover to pool onto the floor brings a quietly luxurious feel to your space, making your bed feel oversized and inviting. And styling your bed cover open really lets those colours and textures to step into the spotlight.
Style #3: Loosely Draped
This third and final style is perfect for a casual bedroom look. This style combines a couple of familiar techniques: the fold from look number one, and the drape from look number two.
To style this effortlessly chic look, loosely fold your bed cover and drape it over the foot of the bed. Give it a quick ruffle to introduce more texture – just a quick once over will do. The key is to not overthink it, just keep things relaxed and effortless. This is perfect for adding dimension to your bed, both through colour and texture.
