Everybody loves a little bit of me-time. Whether you’ve mastered the perfect routine for an Everything Shower (TikTok-speak for a shower that busts out all the stops, encapsulating every part of your grooming routine), love a luxurious bath here and there, or just enjoy the daily ritual of a skincare routine – so much of our self-care happens in the bathroom. So, doesn’t it go without saying that the space where we pamper ourselves should feel a bit luxe?

If you’re a renter, you’re probably familiar with this classic bathroom interior – neutral tiles, white walls (whether tiled or painted), perhaps a window with some natural light if you’re lucky. If this sounds familiar, you’ll know all too well that it might take a little bit of TLC to get your space feeling like somewhere you want to be. The good news – especially for the aforementioned renters out there – is that you don’t need to invest in a full-blown renovation to achieve a luxurious bathroom style. In fact, sometimes it’s the small additions that can make all the difference in a space.

To help us with our mission to style a bathroom suited to the most indulgent pampering routine, we asked Interior Stylist, Fiona Gould for her top five ways to style a luxe bathroom. Let’s dive right in.

Choose Luxe Materials

Now, this first tip will look different depending on what you’re working with. If you’ve been blessed by the powers that be, perhaps you already have natural stone benchtops (as Fiona tells us, marble makes any space feel more expensive). For those of us without, we’ll have to get a little bit more creative with how we incorporate some luxurious finishes.

If you’re lacking in square footage, try swapping out disposable hand soap bottles for a refillable set – be it coloured glass, stone, or glazed ceramic, it’s a quick swap that really elevates your basin. If you’re a fan of bar soap rather than liquid, a cute soap tray works similar wonders.

If your bathroom is on the roomier side, try filling an empty corner with an end table. This is also a great option if you’re lacking in built-in storage. Look for materials like timber to bring a grounded, warm feel to your space, or of course, you could go down the marble route here as well for that luxury look (even if it’s faux marble, we won’t tell anyone).

Brighten Things Up

Bath towels are not just a bare necessity for the bathroom – they’re also an effective way to incorporate colour and pattern into your space. Which colours you choose are completely up to you – there’s no single colour palette that says luxury. What does matter is that you style your towels in a way that feels coordinated and purposeful. Whether you go for a complete matching set, or play with two complementary colours, ensure that your bath towels, bathmat and hand towels all feel like they belong together.

And please, hang up your towels. If you don’t have a towel rail or hook already, try propping a decorative ladder against the wall to hang your towels. Storing your bath towels properly (i.e. with lots of airflow) between bathing sessions doesn’t just elevate the look of your bathroom – it’ll also help you avoid unwanted damp smells and bacteria. As for your clean towels? Keep them neatly folded and ready to go. Think of them as part of your decor – a soft, plush piece of art.

Add Fresh Florals

If you ask us, buying yourself fresh flowers is a form of self-care in and of itself. Having some bright blooms on display will bring a touch of life to your bathroom – keep them in a cute vase or decorative vessel for the full effect.

If you fancy yourself a bit of a green thumb (and you have access to natural light in your bathroom), you can opt for an indoor plant instead. Not only will they last longer than cut flowers, but with correct care they’ll continue to flourish until your bathroom becomes its own green oasis – talk about lush. Plants like ferns and monsteras thrive in humidity, making them ideal for bathrooms.

Get Organised

A key rule of interior styling is knowing what to have on display and what to hide away. Look at your bathroom surfaces – what can be put away in a drawer or cupboard, and what needs to be easily accessible or on display? Take anything that falls into the latter category and group them together on a decorative tray. An interior styling hack that turns clutter into an accessory? Sign us up.

Indulge Your Senses

Creating a luxurious space isn’t just about looks. To create a bathroom that feels like a luxury getaway, you'll want to create a multisensory experience. Invest in towels and bath robes that feel soft and plush against skin (not to brag, but any of our bath towel and robe collections are a great place to start). Keep a scented candle on display to light while you shower or soak in the tub – it’ll also double as some nice ambient lighting. You can even bring a Bluetooth speaker into the bathroom with you (a waterproof one preferably) and set the mood with some music while you pamper yourself.

In their best form, bathrooms aren’t just a utility. They’re a setting for relaxation and self-care – a place to reset and recharge. And as always, follow your personal taste and don’t be afraid to experiment when it comes to your interior styling – your dreamiest luxury bathroom is the one that feels like a reflection of you.
