Every Sheridan design is a collaborative experience. From our textile designers who design every print by hand in our Sydney Design Studio, to our head designers that ensure every fibre, fit, and feel is just right. For our third instalment of Meet the Maker, we’re shining the spotlight on Agnes – one of our textile designers. Agnes has been designing for Sheridan for a year and a half, and this season she’s the creative force behind our Franzi print. A design so nice we’ve showcased it twice – this print is also available in our bedding collection as Tilley.

A modern geometric print with just a touch of vintage inspiration, Franzi brings to mind visions of hand painted tiles mosaiced at the bottom of a swimming pool. It’s a perfect summer scene – so let’s dive right in.

Can you share a bit about what led you into design?

I think the beautiful thing about design is being able to create meaningful products that bring joy to people. I also love that I can be creative as a part of my work, and it feels like every day is an opportunity to demonstrate different creative ideas.

I was working a 9 to 5 accounting job for the longest time and I just felt that it wasn’t where I wanted to be. I made the decision to start studying design in the hopes that it would get my creative juices flowing again – and here I am!

Could you walk us through how you typically approach a new design?

Usually, it would stem from an idea for a print. That original idea could be inspired by anything – like nature, trends on the runway, or exhibitions I’ve seen. Its also very much a collaborative process at Sheridan, so our wonderful design team would work together to create and develop various prints and patterns for products.

What was the inspiration behind Franzi and what elements are you most fond of?

The inspiration came from some design research we did earlier in the season. I love how classic yet contemporary this design is. The small-scale repeating pattern feels very modern as an abstract geometric print. It works perfectly well in our bedding collection as Tilley but also in our loungewear as the Franzi design.

Want to bring a piece of art home?

Agnes’ Tilley design is available as a quilt cover set or coordinating pillowcase pair. Fully reversible, Tilley features Agnes’ original print in two complementary colourways – so you can style your bedroom according to your mood.

You can also shop the print in our Franzi loungewear collection; available as a shirt, pants, slip and robe. Crafted from TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres in relaxed silhouettes, the collection is crafted for breathable comfort. A addition to your summer rotation.
