Sophisticated Ways to Style a Pink Bedroom — For Adults

We don’t know about you, but we’re personally of the belief that it’s time to rethink pink.

“Rethink pink?” You might ask, “The colour hasn’t gone anywhere.”

That’s true — thanks to its gendered (and age) connotations, it’s a colour we’re introduced to pretty young, that’s viewed through the lens of stereotype, and of girlish naivety. But now that it’s gone through a few transformations — especially in recent years — it no longer deserves to be avoided for bedroom decor.

Pink decided to launch itself back into the cultural zeitgeist with rose gold, back in 2012. But the transformation really came about with ‘millennial pink’ — also known as ‘Tumblr pink’. The term ‘millennial pink’ was coined in 2016, by writer and author Veronique Hyland — it was being seen, quite literally, everywhere.

Pantone named Rose Quartz its Colour of the Year in 2016, with the business saying the choice was meant to challenge “traditional perceptions of colour association”.

And six years on, thanks to director Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie — starring our homegrown Margot Robbie — the now dubbed ‘Barbiecore’ is having its moment. You’re probably able to picture the ubiquitous hot pink hue without any help from us.

With that accidental PR overhaul of the colour, it’s safe to say that learning how to style pink bedding isn’t a task that’s too farfetched. And Sabal, our rosewater-coloured collection with a one-of-a-kind textured design, lets you incorporate pink into your bedroom with ease. Think ‘sophisticate with something to say’ vibes.

Who wouldn’t want that?

Pink bedrooms for adults truly make sense — versatile and fresh, adding warmth and character to your home. When the colour also boasts sumptuous textures, it allows you to truly make it your own. And that’s if you’re going for something more subtle and intimate, or the other end of the spectrum and dialling the drama all the way up, with a flourish.

Meet Sabal

Remember that texture we talked about? (It was just in the last paragraph, so we hope you do). Sabal has this in spades — seriously, just look at it.

This light pink bedding brings blossoms into your bedroom — you’ll never have to buy yourself a discounted supermarket bouquet again (unless you’re into that, of course). Not only is this floral design hand-drawn by our designers, it’s then been translated, using a jacquard weave, into tactile dots, with matte and sheen finishes.

That old cliche of the beauty’s in the details? Yeah, it’s true in this case.

Pink Styling Tip #1

Of course, it’s one thing just looking at a quilt cover — it’s a whole other thing when it comes to styling it. Which is why we went straight to our Senior Design Manager, Carmen Lingenau — to discover exactly how to make it work.

First up? “The usual suspects” — a fresh white, for a more minimalist take. And if you go for soft sateen, like our 400 thread count sheet set, you get the same silky-smooth feel as Sabal, plus a lustrous finish.

Pink Styling Tip #2

Looking for what colour goes with blush pink bedding? Weightier shades at the other end of the colour spectrum — like darker, rich blues — are your answer. Or as Carmen tells Sheridan Life, “It’s a sophisticated contrast colour.”

Her recommendation? 400tc Soft Sateen Sheet Set, in midnight.

Pink Styling Tip #3

It turns out that the solution to styling pink bedding is…more pink. By styling a tonal bed, you’re letting the jacquard — and the textural variation it creates — do all the talking.

“Lychee in Byren Percale works perfectly — the TENCEL Lyocell fibres add a gorgeous drape,” explains Carmen.

Pink Styling Tip #4

“If you want to add warmth, as opposed to a fresh white, I’d suggest pairing with our TENCEL™ Lyocell Fibre & Cotton in bone.”

Pink, especially in such a soft flushed shade like our Sabal, is practically a neutral in itself — which is why it pairs so well with other neutral hues.

Another one to add to the muted palette? Chai — a gentle shade of brown, that’s as comforting as the loungewear it comes in. Perfect for those who want to colour coordinate even while sleeping (guilty).

Pink Styling Tip #5

It turns out pink accent pillows can work in one of two ways — the ideal starting point for those looking to dip their toe in the pond of pink bedroom styling, or the final flourish to your pink bedroom idea.

Layer Brannen or Tellford on your lounge, in your living room or on your bed. Unique textures (we’re talking about you, pintucks) and sparkling details (look at you, metallic thread) are the grown-up way to bring the shade into your home decor.
