Styling Series: Three Winter Bedroom Looks

Winter is on our doorstep, and with its short days and cold nights inching closer, it’s officially time to bust out the cosiest bedding available. That might mean switching out your quilt for a heavier-weight option, layering up with a bed cover, or switching out your summer sheets for oh-so warm and fuzzy flannelette. In fact, our flannelette collection is available in sheet sets and quilt cover sets (both of which include coordinating pillowcases), so you can wrap yourself in the cosiest flannelette blanket burrito you can imagine.

Despite winter days feeling a bit grey and dull, that doesn’t mean your bedroom has to reflect what’s outside the window. To help us dodge the winter blues, we’ve asked interior designer, Fiona Gould to help us style some chic winter looks, starring (you guessed it) our flannelette collection. Whether you’re into colours, prints, or a more minimalist aesthetic — here are three cosy bedroom styles to try out this winter.

Look One: Playful Colour

All three of the looks we’re styling today include our Flannelette Mini Windowpane quilt cover set. With its crisp white base and textured grid design, this set lends itself to some fun combinations — be it pops of colour, contrasting prints, different textures. Fiona’s first look utilises each of these elements to create a playful bedroom look.

Starting with the sheets, Fiona has opted for a mismatched look. Combining the fitted sheet from our Flannelette Ottilie Check sheet set and the flat sheet from the Flannelette Sheet Set in macaroon, Fiona creates layers of colour and pattern.

Bring this colour up into the pillowcases, combining macaroon with our Mini Windowpane design to tie back into the quilt cover.

For some pops of contrasting texture (and an extra cosy layer of warmth), Fiona finishes the look with our Nela Square Cushion and coordinating bed cover in pink taupe.

Look Two: Refined

Highlighting fresh whites and crisp stripes, Fiona’s second look is for anyone who prefers a minimalist bedroom look.

Start by combining a white fitted sheet with the flat sheet from our Flannelette Tri Stripe sheet set. By mixing in a solid dye fitted sheet, Fiona is able to break up the prints and give the eye a place to rest — after all, we want your bedroom to feel soothing, not overwhelming.

Sticking with just two standard pillows, style the coordinating Flannelette Tri Stripe pillowcases to bring those subtle colour pops up to the surface. Mix in a neutral cushion with a different shape or size for contrast — Fiona has opted for our Tessino Cushion here.

Finish the look by draping a blanket or throw over the foot of the bed. Fiona has chosen our Poet Throw in cardamon, bringing out the colours in our Flannelette Tri Stripe sheets and introducing some cosy texture.

Look Three: Mixing Florals

Fiona describes this third look as relaxed coastal winter (sign me up). A combination of bright, airy colours and just a touch of florals, this bed looks exactly how a crisp breeze feels.

For the base of this look, begin with the fitted sheet and pillowcases from our Flannelette Sheet Set in blue ice. Mix in the flat sheet from our Flannelette Daisy Floral Sheet Set, also in the shade blue ice (talk about a perfect pairing). If you’ve visited the Life + Style blog before, you’ll likely know that we’re supporters of mixing florals with just about any contrasting print. The organic shapes in this ditsy floral print create beautiful contrast with the Mini Windowpane print.

Fiona keeps it light and breezy with our accessories — highlighting the bright whites and soothing greens in the bedding. Here, Fiona has paired out Alber Cushion in grove with the Sano Linen Breakfast Cushion in white. To bring home the relaxed coastal aesthetic, drape the coordinating Sano Linen Throw over the foot of the bed. Easy breezy.
