The saying may be “the grass is always greener on the other side” — but not after you’ve finished decorating with this shade.

Although colours like cumin have had their time in the spotlight, it’s now time for green — true greens, lively and refreshing — to have their moment.

Not only is it a trending gender-neutral colour for babies, according to, well, us, it’s also a colour that can be incorporated throughout the entirety of your house, and then some.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

If you’ve ever studied colour psychology, visual arts, or you just enjoy looking at nature, you’ll know that the colour green has strong (obvious) associations with nature. Many reference green as a colour that’s revitalising, harmonious, and calming.

Meaning? It’s always a good idea to incorporate green into your interior design.

Dulux has even included multiple shades of green in their 2023 Colour Forecast — seen in both their Balance palette and Revive one. Soft greens help restore balance and calm, deep vibrant greens allow for joy and creativity.

But you don’t have to commit to painting a green feature wall, or take on some slightly rogue DIY projects (especially if you’re in a rental and want that bond back). Green home decor ideas can be as simple as — incorporating the hue throughout your space simply, with homewares.

Whether the bedroom, the bathroom, a scattered cushion or two wherever there’s space, we can help you with everything you need when it comes to how to style green.

Green for the Bedroom

Dressing your bed in green can be the perfect way to introduce the shade into your home — it’s the largest piece in your bedroom, but can be scaled up or scaled back, dependent on your style.

Quilt Covers

Lean into the theme of nature with our Maplewood Quilt Cover, and the pattern of peonies that scatter across its front.

Bed Covers

If you’re looking to introduce green into your summer bedding — and you’re more partial to a bed cover than a quilt cover — Dobson could be the one for you. Quilted with pinstripes, it’s effortlessly laidback.

Sheets

Want a touch of green in your bedroom? Go for a subtle moment with a sheet; we recommend 1000 Thread Count Hotel Luxury Sheet Set in julip, if you’re feeling fancy and prefer a heavier weight.

Prefer something a little more lightweight, crisp yet soft? Byren will be just right for you, in the shade aloe. And don’t worry, we’ve got a guide for styling coloured sheets to help you out.

Pillowcases

To top it off? Our Abbotson Linen Shams and Pillowcases in cactus — that plant-derived fibre offers a delicious contrast in textures.

Green for the Living Room

How to decorate with green is up to you. As in, you can choose cushions or throws; scattered about or organised in colour or height order, or try the “I just threw this on” look. And we’ve got just the products to help you do it.

Square Cushions

Our designers agree — bold coloured cushions (like Henson here) can add depth to a space. With its marled knit stripe and unique texture, it’s also a simple way to give a room a new feel.

Breakfast Cushions

You know how you see someone’s gallery wall, and even though you know they were meticulous with the arrangement, it just looks oh so effortless — and you want to emulate it immediately?

Well, even if your answer’s no, there’s something to be said for styling cushions in different shapes and sizes — for that same ‘je ne sais quoi’ effect. Layer combinations, playing them off one another. Breakfast cushions — Stanfield, it’s your time to shine — are perfect for this.

Textured Cushions

Cushions like Westbourke work in twofold. Not only can it break up a uniform colour palette, but mixing in multiple textures makes a space feel cosier. Oh, and it can help highlight how unique each individual cushion is.

Throws

If you’re ready to throw in the towel when it comes to styling your home decor, it’s time to consider a throw. Like our Westberry Throw.

And yes, we know it’s not technically green — but with its obvious association to nature, it can complement your existing green interior design. The fringing adds a casual look, which means it looks just as good rumpled than carefully draped over one corner of your bed.

It’ll also look great wrapped around your shoulders for whenever you’re cold.

Green for the Bathroom

When it comes to your bathroom, it might seem a little more difficult figuring out how to style green throughout the space — especially if you’re renting, and can’t repaint or wallpaper.

There’s always adding a touch of green through a plant (or two, or three, or fifty). A tropical one, perhaps?

But if you don’t possess a green thumb, other green accents will do. Like our towels and robes.

Robes

From the colour to the fibres it’s crafted from, this robe is practically like decorating with a plant. The name of the shade is palm, and it’s made from a blend of two plant-derived fibres — cotton and TENCEL™ Lyocell

Can’t get closer than that.

And whether you leave it crumpled on the floor (guilty), hanging from the towel rack or door, it’s a simple way to add green to your bathroom.

Towels

This towel set will have you feeling green as well — a thoughtful choice, crafted with a blend of cotton and recycled cotton pile.

A set with two hand towels and two bath towels, you can leave perched on the countertop, for a neat, elegant way to style with green. Or just letting it drape from the towel rack lets the colour have its moment, regardless.

Green for the Kids

You already have five ways to style your kid’s bedroom — here’s two green home decor ideas you can add to the list. Green is ideal for decorating a kids space because it’s pretty widely accepted (and used) as a gender neutral colour, and is a colour they’re less likely to outgrow (sorry pink).

Sheets

Whether you’re using it as an accent in a space, or you’re styling the room around it, our Daisy Field is go-to. From outdoor adventurer to a friend of fairyfolk, wilderness explorer to those who just like the colour green — this sheet set will add a vibrant touch.

Quilt Covers

The ultimate bed topper, with Kiko. A green gingham, it’s infinitely more versatile than it first appears — the plain, wholly green reverse means you can get twice the styling out of it. You could pair it with the aforementioned daisies, or even bring some unexpected yellow.

Remember to go for a paler shade of yellow — otherwise you risk building an incidental shrine to the Wallabies.

Green for the Beach

Okay, so we’re clearly moving away from green interior design — but we couldn’t help ourselves!

The colour of the season includes the beach season, and you’ll never lose track of where you laid your towel down on the sand when its this shade of green.

Suli Rocks, in towel and poncho form, is perfect for long summer days.
